Zéro Bachotage · The body first

You read the same line three times. Nothing goes in.

This isn't a method problem. It's your body talking: your focus is slipping, your sleep is out of sync, your stress has been building for days. And no revision sheet can fix that.

There are natural, powerful tools that act within minutes on attention, stress, energy and sleep. Not gadgets. Biochemical tools that plants produce and that research documents.

Here you'll find the products presented in the book Zéro Bachotage, sorted by real situation. Not a random list. What you use, when, how, and why it works.

The recommended products are dōTERRA products, selected and used by Magali.

Why the body first

Your brain doesn't run on nothing.

It runs on what your body gives it: oxygen, stable blood sugar, a regulated nervous system, and sleep that consolidates what you learned during the day.

When one of those levers fails, you don't retain anything. You procrastinate. You wear yourself out. And you think it's a willpower problem, when it's a fuel problem.

Quality essential oils are neither perfumes nor medicines. They are concentrates of bioactive molecules that interact measurably with your nervous system, your emotions, your circulation, your cognition. Smell is the only sense wired directly to the limbic system: the part of the brain that handles emotion and memory. A scent doesn't need to go through the prefrontal cortex to have an effect. It arrives directly.

The difference between an oil that works and one that does nothing is always the same: quality.

A student overwhelmed during a lesson, head in her hands, a bottle of essential oil on her desk.
Why dōTERRA · The CPTG standard

The market is saturated with products of wildly uneven quality.

An oil sold for a few euros in a supermarket may have been diluted, extracted at too high a temperature, or made from plants grown with pesticides. It can smell exactly like a pure oil. Your nose can't tell the difference. Biochemistry can.

  1. Direct sourcing. dōTERRA works with local growers, in the regions where each plant expresses its best biochemical profile. No middlemen, full traceability.

World map: more than 170 essential oils sourced from more than 45 countries.
The guiding principles of Co-Impact Sourcing: fair working conditions, support for cooperatives, community development.
  1. 176 tests per batch. Gas chromatography, mass spectrometry: checks for pesticides, heavy metals and synthetic components. Across the product's whole life cycle.
  2. Independent third-party laboratories: the tests are not carried out by dōTERRA itself.
The eight families of tests applied to every batch of essential oil, from organoleptic assessment to stability testing.
A dōTERRA bottle held in one hand, the batch code printed under the cap.
  1. A code on every bottle lets you look up the results for the exact batch in your hand.
  2. Certified Pure Tested Grade (CPTG): the purity standard created by dōTERRA. It isn't a conventional organic certification, it's stricter. A lower-grade oil can smell exactly the same and have a completely different molecular composition, and therefore a very different real effect, or none at all.
Focus · Memory · Mental clarity

You've been sitting there an hour. Your notebook is open. Nothing has gone in.

You read the same sentence for the fourth time. Your eyes slide off it. You check the time. You open your phone « just for a second ». It isn't the subject that's the problem, it's your attention needing a signal to restart.

Peppermint

dōTERRA Peppermint · Mentha piperita

The best known and often the most underused. It increases blood flow to the brain, stimulates alertness and vigilance, and speeds up reaction time. It reduces perceived mental fatigue and improves working memory. It clears the airways: deeper breathing means better oxygenation, and therefore better focus.

Direct inhalation from the bottle: three slow breaths before you start, or when fatigue hits.

One drop between the eyebrows for mental clarity. One drop on the palate for a fast wake-up.

Diffusion: 2 to 3 drops, 30 to 60 minutes maximum, to sustain the effect.

Applied to the neck and shoulders: 1 diluted drop to release muscle tension.

Avoid in children under 6. Caution in pregnancy and with high blood pressure. Do not apply near the eyes.

Peppermint beadlets

dōTERRA Peppermint Beadlets

The most discreet and practical format: 1 or 2 tiny beads to burst in your mouth when energy dips. They also work for digestion. They fit anywhere, they can be used anywhere, with no bottle and no diffuser.

Rosemary

dōTERRA Rosemary · Rosmarinus officinalis ct camphor

The memory oil, documented by research. Its main compound (1,8-cineole) acts on the neurotransmitter central to memory and learning. A study published in Therapeutic Advances in Psychopharmacology (2012) showed that exposure to rosemary improves memorisation. It is a tonic for the central nervous system: it stimulates without agitating, unlike caffeine.

Diffusion during intensive memorisation sessions: formulas, vocabulary, timelines.

Direct inhalation before a Cornell recall session.

Applied diluted to the neck and wrist: 1 drop.

Avoid in cases of epilepsy, pregnancy or high blood pressure. Not recommended in the evening.

Lemon

dōTERRA Lemon · Citrus limon

Limonene (the dominant compound) acts on the serotonergic system: it lifts mood and reduces mild anxiety, without sedation. It stimulates dopamine, the motivation neurotransmitter. Office-based studies show fewer errors and better quality of attention. A gentler tonic than peppermint, it combines easily with other oils.

Diffused alone or blended with peppermint (2+2 drops) for focus plus lightness.

1 drop in a large glass of water (CPTG oil only): hydration plus focus.

Direct inhalation at the start of a session, or when discouragement sets in.

Internal use only with oils certified for that purpose. Photosensitising: avoid sun exposure for 12 hours after applying to the skin.

Focus blend

dōTERRA InTune® · Focus Blend

The blend designed for attention, clarity of mind and sustained focus. A synergistic formula: amyris, frankincense, lime, patchouli, Roman chamomile, Hawaiian sandalwood, ylang-ylang. Sandalwood and frankincense bring mental clarity and stability. Patchouli limits scattering. Ylang-ylang and chamomile calm without making you drowsy. Together they bring you back into the present, ready to work without drifting.

A cumulative effect: with regular use, the brain learns to associate this scent with the state of focus. Getting into focus becomes faster, week after week.

Applied to the neck, wrists or temples, 1 to 2 passes, before a long session.

Recommended combination: InTune® topically plus peppermint or lemon diffused.

Before an exam: apply to the wrists as the paper starts. Slow, deep inhalation.

External use only. Avoid the eye area.

Motivation · Procrastination

That presentation still hasn't been started. It's been three days.

You know you have to get on with it. You've known since Monday. But you put it off. You tidy your desk, you do a load of washing, you open a document and close it again. The task isn't the problem. It's the moment of starting that blocks you.

A student sitting in front of his laptop, chin in his hand, staring into the distance.

Encouraging blend

dōTERRA Motivate® · Encouraging Blend

Peppermint, sweet orange, clementine, lemon, rosemary, coriander, basil, spearmint, lemongrass, cardamom, melissa, tonka bean, vanilla absolute. The mints and citrus dominate and give a stimulating effect. Coriander, basil and cardamom ground the blend. Melissa, tonka bean and vanilla soften it.

The scent acts directly on the limbic system, the emotional zone of the brain. Before you've thought about anything at all, inhaling has already shifted your inner state. It's a nudge for the moment when you just need to begin.

Direct inhalation from the bottle before starting a task you've been putting off.

Applied to the wrists or neck before a work session that's hard to launch.

Diffused in the background while preparing a talk, a presentation, an interview.

On the soles of the feet in the morning, to start an exam day with momentum.

External use. Dilute for sensitive skin. Photosensitising: avoid sun exposure for 12 hours after applying to the skin.

Stress · Exam anxiety

That knot in your stomach for three days. And the exams haven't even started.

Stress, in reasonable doses, is useful for learning. It sharpens attention and short-term memory. But past a certain threshold, and during exam periods that threshold is crossed often, it becomes counterproductive: memory fragments, thinking narrows, sleep deteriorates.

Managing stress isn't a question of character or willpower. The autonomic nervous system can be regulated deliberately: through breathing, through natural tools, through targeted interventions.

A tense student behind a pile of books, in the middle of exam season.

Calming blend

dōTERRA Adaptiv® · Calming Blend (oil and roll-on)

Lavender, spearmint, copaiba, orange, rosemary, magnolia, neroli, jasmine. Oils with a parasympathetic dominance: they engage the nervous system's brake without causing drowsiness. Neroli acts on the GABAergic system, gently reducing neuronal excitability without dependence. Magnolia contains linalool, a molecule whose stress-reducing effect has been shown in inhalation studies.

The effect is adaptive: it supports regulation without imposing a state. Used before an exam, it calms without sedating. Used in the evening, it prepares you for sleep.

Roll-on over the solar plexus, sternum or wrists before a stressful situation.

Diffused while revising during stressful periods: 2 to 3 drops.

Acute stress spike: direct inhalation from the bottle, five slow breaths.

Can also be diluted in the bath, in salts or in shower gel.

Calming capsules

dōTERRA Adaptiv® Capsules

The oil acts in the moment. The capsules give a longer systemic action, on the hypothalamic-pituitary-adrenal axis. Useful when stress is chronic over several days, not just occasional.

2 capsules a day during exam periods. Gradual, sustained effect.

Tension · Revision headaches

Your neck has seized up. A headache is setting in. Your session is over.

Hours sitting in the same position. Shoulders creeping up. Temples tightening. And at some point it interrupts everything. You can't concentrate on anything but the pain.

A young woman massaging her temples, a bottle of essential oil beside her.

Tension roll-on

dōTERRA PastTense® · Tension Blend (roller)

Peppermint, spearmint, coriander, aniseed, frankincense, copaiba, rosemary, lavender, eucalyptus radiata. Designed for muscular tension and tension headaches. Vasodilating and muscle-relaxing: it reduces contraction in the neck, shoulders and temples. Peppermint and eucalyptus create a cooling effect that interrupts pain transmission. It clears the mental fog that comes with eye strain.

Available as a roller: applied directly, with no contact from your hands.

Roll onto the temples, the base of the skull and the neck, in slow circular movements.

At the first sign of tension: apply immediately, don't wait for the pain to settle in.

Recommended combination: PastTense® topically, plus water with an electrolyte stick, plus a 5-minute visual break (look into the distance, no screen).

As prevention: apply to the neck at the start of a long session if you're prone to tension.

Avoid the eye area. Do not apply neat to sensitive skin, dilute if necessary.

Energy · Metabolism · Hydration

The 2pm slump. And you've still got three hours of revision ahead of you.

After a meal, your brain slows down. Mental fog sets in. You have a coffee, it works for 45 minutes, then the crash is worse than before. The problem isn't a lack of caffeine. It's blood sugar on a rollercoaster, and mitochondria that can't keep up.

The Metabolism range brings together three complementary products that work on three different levels: blood sugar regulation, cellular hydration, and mitochondrial energy.

A young woman with her arms open in golden light, her energy back.

Metabolic blend

dōTERRA MetaPWR® · Metabolic Blend (oil)

Grapefruit, lemon, cassia, ginger, clove, peppermint. Oils recognised for their action on insulin sensitivity and blood sugar regulation. Stable blood sugar is directly linked to a stable brain, without the spikes and crashes that create mental fog, irritability and loss of focus.

1 drop in water before the meal preceding a work session, or in your bottle through the day.

Electrolytes and cellular rehydration

dōTERRA MetaPWR Recharge® (sticks)

Electrolytes, sea water, ginseng and baobab. One stick to dilute in a large glass of water during your session. Cellular hydration, meaning not just drinking water but letting water actually enter your cells, is a direct lever on focus. Dehydration of just 2% measurably reduces concentration and short-term memory.

1 stick in 500 ml of water during your session. Blood sugar support and hydration, especially in hot weather.

Cellular energy capsules

dōTERRA Mito2Max® · Energy & Stamina Complex

Coenzyme Q10, acetyl-L-carnitine, cordyceps, ginseng, quercetin, manganese. This supplement supports ATP production (the fuel of every neuron) by optimising mitochondrial function and managing oxidative stress. It doesn't act like a stimulant: no spike, no crash. The energy is lasting, not explosive.

1 to 2 capsules in the morning, for demanding days and periods. Before morning sessions or exams.

Sleep · Recovery · Consolidation

You revise until 2am. You're stopping your brain from doing its job.

Sleep is often the first thing we sacrifice, when the night is exactly when everything is integrated. Your hippocampus replays the day's learning, organises it, transfers it to long-term storage. Sleeping after learning improves retention by 20 to 40%. That isn't an impression. It's measurable.

A young woman asleep: the night during which the brain consolidates the day's learning.

Restful range

dōTERRA Serenity® · Restful Blend (oil and diffusion)

Lavender, cedarwood, coriander, ylang-ylang, marjoram, sandalwood, vetiver, Roman chamomile, vanilla, tonka. A synergy of oils with a parasympathetic, mildly sedative dominance. Lavender contains linalool: its GABAergic action is documented, it shortens the time it takes to fall asleep and improves deep sleep. Vetiver grounds and steadies the nervous system, for minds that ruminate at bedtime. Cedarwood slightly slows the heart rate and eases the transition into sleep.

Diffusion: 2 to 3 drops, 30 minutes before sleep. Turn the diffuser off before you fall asleep.

Applied to the soles of the feet, 1 drop on each side, or to the wrist and sternum.

Combination: Adaptiv® plus Serenity® topically over the solar plexus, for nights when exam anxiety keeps you awake.

Also available as a stick to apply over the body before sleep.

Sleep softgels

dōTERRA Serenity® Softgels

L-theanine and natural melatonin. Systemic action on falling asleep, useful during late nights or shifted rhythms in exam periods.

1 to 2 softgels 30 minutes before bed on difficult nights or during stressful periods.

Do not combine with anxiolytic or sleeping medication without medical advice.

Nutrition · Neuronal structure

Your brain uses 20% of your body's energy. And it needs building materials.

Omega-3s (EPA and DHA) are structural components of neuronal membranes. A deficiency is associated with difficulties in focus, mood and learning. Not all omega-3 supplements are equal: bioavailability varies enormously with chemical form and purity.

A balanced breakfast shown with the dōTERRA supplements: VMG+, Omega Complex and MetaPWR.

Omega-3

dōTERRA xEO Mega® · Essential Oil Omega Complex

A marine formula (EPA and DHA) plus a plant one (ALA), ultra-purified, free of heavy metals and dioxins. The formula includes omega-6, -7 and -9 for complete essential fatty acid coverage, with vitamins D and E. Bioavailability is improved by orange essential oil.

For a student in an intensive revision period, quality omega-3s support the fluidity of synaptic transmission, mood regulation, mental fog and resistance to chronic stress. It's a cumulative lever: the effect builds over several weeks.

1 to 2 softgels a day with a meal. Neuronal structure over the long term.
